The main stage of this system is the RO membrane, and all the other replacement filters work together to protect and serve that membrane.
 
It is essential to replace the filters periodically to ensure that the RO membrane gives you the desired reduction rate.
 
This system includes three filters and a membrane that needs to be changed regularly. Pre-filters and post-filters in RO systems can generally last up to 8 to 12 months between changes.
 
However, only the original organic RO membranes can last up to 5 years. 
 
The Puromax 4-Stage Water Filter System features different filters that represent the various stages of water purification.
 
The first filter is the sediment filter, designed to remove large and fine particles from drinking water, such as sand, dirt, silt, and rust particles. This filter allows the other filters, such as carbon block or GAC filters, to perform better. The sediment filter has a micron rating of 5 microns and should be replaced every year, depending on the water quality. It meets NSF Standards and Regulations and can fit any residential reverse osmosis unit with a standard 10” filter housing.
 
The second filter is the organic original activated carbon block filter, made of fine coconut shell carbon. This filter is designed to remove odors and tastes of many organic compounds and chlorine. It offers a much finer filtration of suspended particles and dirt due to its full carbon, forming a cylinder block. Its micron rating is 5 microns, and it meets NSF standards and regulations. It should be replaced every year, depending on the water quality. It also fits any residential reverse osmosis unit with a 10” filter housing.
 
The third filter is the 100% Organic NSF-Certified 2-GPM thin film TFC membrane, which is the main component of the Puromax 4 Stage Water Filter System. It is made with 100% organic fine thin film flat sheet and has a 98% reduction rate of bacteria, pesticides, herbicides, and heavy metals from tap water. The organic membrane has a micron rating of a thin film less than 1/10000th of a Micron, which is 620,000 times finer than a human hair, 2,500 times smaller than bacteria, and 20 times smaller than any virus. It is NSF/ANSI Standard 58 listed and has a capacity of 50 gallons per day (15.8 -19.6 liters per hour). Its performance specifications are based on 500 ppm tap water, 50psi (0.35 MPa) applied pressure, 77°F (25°C) feed water temperature, pH 7-8, and 15% recovery. It meets all the necessary operating conditions, with a maximum operating pressure of 125 psi (0.86 MPa), a maximum feed flow rate of 2 GPM, a maximum operating temperature of 113° F (45° C), a maximum feed water turbidity of 1 NTU, and a minimum brine flow to permeate flow ratio of 4:1.
 
The fourth filter is the original organic inline carbon filter for Puromax water filters, known as the polishing filter. Made of high-quality coconut shell carbon, it stabilizes the water-tasting qualities and removes any bad taste and odors. It should be replaced every one to two years and meets NSF Standards and Regulations.
